LQuin belongs to a class of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones. It combats bacteria in the body and is prescribed for bacterial infections affecting the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, or prostate. Additionally, LQuin is utilized to treat bacterial infections that lead to bronchitis or pneumonia, as well as in cases of anthrax exposure. It may also have uses not specified in this medication guide.

You should refrain from using LQuin if you have a history of myasthenia gravis, or if you are allergic to levofloxacin or other similar antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin, gemifloxacin, moxifloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, among others.

Before starting LQuin, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver issues, muscle weakness or breathing difficulties, joint problems, a history of seizures, diabetes, low potassium levels in your blood, a personal or family history of Long QT syndrome, or if you've ever had an allergic reaction to antibiotics.

Try to avoid taking antacids, vitamin or mineral supplements, sucralfate, or didanosine powder or chewable tablets within 2 hours before or after you take LQuin. Levofloxacin may lead to swelling or rupture of a tendon (the connective tissue between bones and muscles), particularly affecting the Achilles tendon in the heel. The risk of these issues may increase if you are over 60, taking steroid medications, or have undergone a kidney, heart, or lung transplant. Discontinue LQuin and contact your doctor immediately if you experience sudden pain, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or mobility issues in any of your joints. Rest the affected joint until you receive medical advice.

The most commonly reported side effects are nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and constipation. Less frequent side effects include insomnia, dizziness, rash, gas, upper stomach pain, and itching. Caution is advised when using LQuin in patients with central nervous system disorders. Allergic reactions, including hives and anaphylaxis, can also occur.
